The Solution
Replaced non-Cat^® engine oil then in use with Cat 15W40 Diesel Engine Oil.

The Situation
A leading Middle East-based total utility solutions provider, executing customized projects in power generation, cooling, water, and renewables, is running 25 Cat generator sets, using Cat 3516 engines to provide power directly to their customers.

The Success

• Cat 15W40 Diesel Engine Oil extended oil drains by 50 hours.
• Using Cat fluids across their fleet also resulted in a 10% reduction in oil use over a year’s time, saving over 100 liters of oil.*
  

Switching Out the Sludge
In conjunction with productivity, Cat Diesel Engine Oil helped address certain maintenance issues. Prior to switching to Cat oil, the customer had experienced:

• High wear rates in the engine parts
• High levels of sludge in the oil pan and other lubrication areas

Fleet repairs were attempted, which led to a complete overhaul due to damage of internal components from deteriorated engine oil.

The Result

A complete oil analysis showed switching to Cat Diesel Engine Oil corrected levels and reduced the deterioration and sludge that can cause engine failure. Two samples of oil were analyzed following the switch.

Engine run time: 189 hours

Oxidation, nitration, sulfur, PDI index, and viscosity return to normal range. Cat 15W40 Diesel Engine Oil has been used to replace competitor’s for all engines in the fleet.

*Customer’s annual oil consumption went from 1,012.772 liters to 911.495 liters across the entire fleet, resulting in 10% less oil used, a reduction of 101.277 liters. Results output may vary based upon internal component conditions and Cat S•O•S^SM Services results.
