Cat® Machines That Are Rebuilt to Last

Cat Certified Rebuild Solutions return end-of-life machines, systems and components to like-new condition at a fraction of the cost of buying new.

Caterpillar has always been known for the unrivaled quality of its machines. But less known is that they are built to be rebuilt. One company that has embraced the rebuild offering and is driving to develop the Cat® Certified Rebuild market is Cat dealer Finning UK & Ireland.

With rebuilds not widely understood by customers yet offering fast, highly sustainable and incredibly cost-effective alternatives to buying new, the potential for Cat dealers is vast.

As recently as three years ago, our approach to the rebuild process was quite passive. But over the years, our approach has become much more focused and extremely targeted. Now it’s driven by data insight using Caterpillar Logic, combined with other data such as PSE leads, condition monitoring, and Cat Inspect and Cat Ware Management. All of this allows us to create warm leads and opportunities by pinpointing those machines that would really benefit from a rebuild. The result has been that we’ve seen our rebuild business double every year since 2019.

Finning UK & Ireland has also found having a range of bespoke rebuild options means they can offer their customers the right solution at the right budget.

At the top level is the Certified Machine Rebuild (CMR), which takes the machine down to its bare chassis and can mean replacing hundreds of different components, resulting in a like-new machine, zero hours on the clock and a new serial number.

Then there’s the Certified Powertrain Rebuild (CPT), which strips down and reconditions all the powertrain components: engine, transmission, differentials and the wheel stations or axles. There’s also the Certified Powertrain Plus Hydraulics rebuild (CPT + Hydraulics), which does the same but also includes replacing all the hydraulic components, cylinders, valves, pumps and motors.

The next step down is the Certified Machine Component Rebuild (CMCR) which reconditions the individual powertrain components back to Caterpillar specifications.

And finally, there’s the Dealer Rebuild (DR) for customers looking for more of a value option, such as a top and tail of an engine or a fuel system overhaul.

The benefits to the customer are huge. From the obvious cost and CAPEX savings that on average are 60-70% compared to buying new, to the extended life cycle of the machine itself and the improvement in their total cost of ownership (TCO). All of these come with incredibly fast turnaround speeds when compared to a new order. This, in today’s challenging world of supply chain issues and stock availability of new machines, can be a huge bonus.

And, of course, there’s the sustainability benefit. Rebuilds are by far the most sustainable option and so represent a considerable contribution to both our and your customers’ environmental targets.

And let’s not forget one of the most significant advantages of the rebuild proposition is building stronger relationships with your customers.
