REAL LIFE ACTION HEROES: Creative Wraps on Cat® Machines
Kellner GmbH & Co KG is a company that has built its success on earthworks and heavy demolition work, notably bridge demolition. But when managing director Michael Kellner reached out to Cat® Dealer Zeppelin about modifying a machine, he didn't expect to be told they already have that spec on a new model.
The 352SB Straightboom would go on to win one of the top prizes for innovation at the World Demolition Awards 2023.
Tobias Polzmacher, Senior Product Manager at Zeppelin Germany, takes up the story. "The 352SB was specifically designed for demolition. The machine has lots of power, great stability, and can operate with very large attachments. And, of course, there's the straight boom, which gives extraordinary upward reach, making it ideal for bridge demolition."
For Michael, what was equally important was the close relationship the two companies have built over the years. "Zeppelin has become a very important partner for us. We started with the Cat 325 about four years ago. Now we have 24 Cat machines ranging from Cat 301.8 mini excavators right up to the Cat 352 UHD."
All of which are covered with unique livery.
"The decals are just a bit of fun. We bought our first machine, a 325 short-tail excavator, and wanted to do something that would stand out as we do a lot of social media.”
Today, every Kellner machine has its own striking livery inspired by superhero machines that bring the company’s unique personality and a smile to every site they work on.
The Cat 352SB was most recently used on the A3 near Kitzingen, where it was used to demolish the abutment structure as part of a road widening project. Working 24-hour days with all the efficiencies that entails - Kellner's machines laid protective bedding over the road, demolishing and removing 2500 cubic meters of concrete, before returning the road to normal.
"The 352 SB was very important for us because of its height. We have very long attachments. We can also set the breakers vertically on the bridge structures. The next thing is, of course the reach," explains Michael.

What is also clear is just how much mutual respect there is between the two companies. "Kellner is active across Germany and throughout Austria, but regardless of whether we are in deepest Lower Bavaria or by the Baltic Sea, we always have the same contact person, and Zeppelin is always there. It's, essentially, why we've replaced our fleet with Cat machines. We have other manufacturers, but it's not the same."
For Tobias, it works both ways. "It is simply a pleasure to work with Kellner because they truly love what they do. They are very proud of their fleet of machines. They are also very innovative in their approach, which helps us at Zeppelin and Caterpillar to improve how we work, and the products Cat makes in the future."

Renewable diesel fuels… they're kind of like nature's gift to our engines. So, what is renewable diesel fuel, exactly? We're talking about fuel made from stuff like soy, palm, canola, even used cooking oil and animal fat.
