Cat® H180ES Hammer Breaks New Ground In Norway

The largest infrastructure project in Norway right now requires not only the moving of mountains, but the breaking of rocks.  That’s why Park & Anlegg, the contractor doing the work, relies on Caterpillar’s biggest hammer, the H180ES.

The Follo Line Project features a new double track rail line between Norway’s capital, Oslo, and the town of Ski, linking growing residential and working areas. It includes a 20 km long twin rail tunnel, which will be the longest in all the Nordic countries. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2021.

Park & Anlegg has been contracted to move hundreds of thousands of cubic meters of masses and mountains in rugged terrain to accommodate the line and the tunnel outlets. “High production, optimal and safe working conditions, efficient and profitable production is what we are working towards. It requires the best and most efficient equipment,” says Park & Anlegg Project Manager Johann Bernhard Stenrød. “That is why we have invested in Cat® equipment and are pleased with the service of dealer Pon Norway.

Park & Anlegg uses the Cat 352F XE Excavator for loading and rock breaking with the H180ES. Pon Norway Product Manager CORE Vilmundur Theodorsson says the combination meets the customer’s need to move more with less fuel. “With fuel consumption of 24 liters per hour, I am impressed with the low fuel consumption, but even more with how ‘soft’ it hammers,” says Bernard Skåland, machine operator.

What Bernard calls ‘soft’ hammering refers to the H180ES’s ability to stop automatically when the rock is broken, avoiding blank shots and unnecessary wear. And the H180ES has built-in noise reduction, which is important to a company committed to a safe workplace and a focus on customer satisfaction.

The H180ES Hammer is leaving its mark on Norway without making a lot of noise about it.
