Mastering efficient and seamless operation in your Caterpillar compact wheel loader isn’t out of reach. It’s actually only five steps away. With features like the Cat® continuous flow switch, Cat hydro-mechanical work tools, throttle lock and ground speed creeper control, we’ve already put in the hard work for you. Why? So you can focus on what’s most important—executing the job at hand.
It’s no secret that the Cat compact wheel loader is a dream for using and alternating attachments. Whether you’re operating a power box rake, broom attachment or any hydro-mechanical work tool, we have the guide and wheel loader tips for easier operation.
It all starts with the Cat continuous flow switch. With this feature, you can engage your ground speed control—or "creeper control"—and the throttle lock to operate your Cat hydro-mechanical attachments with more efficiency and ease than ever.
To start operating your Cat compact wheel loader and its attachments more efficiently using continuous flow, you’ll first find the set button on the soft-touch keypad to activate the throttle lock feature. From there, you’ll set your performance speed in neutral with the right pedal to ensure maximum hydro-mechanical work tool performance from your specific attachment.
You’ll find this especially helpful for even and constant power with any rotary work tools in your fleet, like broom attachments, cold planer attachments, snow blower attachments, power box rake attachments and more.
Activate your attachment with the thumb roller on your right joystick controller in the cab of your compact wheel loader. Then, you’ll activate the top button on your joystick and let go to engage your work tool with a constant, even source of power. The Cat continuous flow switch does exactly what it’s named after—providing a cruise-control-like feature for your Cat hydro-mechanical work tool use.
Then, with the dial underneath your soft-touch keypad, you’ll turn on the wheel loader’s ground speed control to the full position, which provides the minimum ground speed. This feature is engaged when a green, snail-shaped light is illuminated on your Cat compact wheel loader dashboard.

Now, when you go into forward, you will not need to engage either the left or right foot pedal or your hand-held joystick. Your Cat hydro-mechanical work tool will be powered via continuous flow and hands-free until you turn it off.
Lower your Cat hydro-mechanical attachment into place by raising or lifting your right joystick. Once placed on the ground or at the correct height from the ground, you’ll activate your speed. Once you have your machine moving forward, you’ll use the creeper control dial to adjust to the perfect operating speed for your given attachment.
If you need to increase or decrease the speed of your compact wheel loader, you’ll want to remember to do so with the previously mentioned dial while you’re in the wheel loader continuous flow setting.
Your Cat compact wheel loader and its fine-tuned wheel loader hydro-mechanical attachments are made to last you many projects, snows, clean-ups—and any job where you put it to work. It just takes a bit of TLC to ensure your Cat products serve you for many years. Not sure where to start?
