What Will Lower My Cat® Compact Wheel Loader’s Fuel Costs?

Many things can go into how your Cat wheel loader lowers fuel costs. It’s why our Cat engineers prioritize efficiency in each and every machine. Not only does it make for top-performing equipment, but it also benefits your bottom line in the long run. And, with features like the throttle lock, inching pedal and overall hystat system, it’s never been easier to save time and money.

Beyond the array of built-in time- and money-savers packed into each model of Cat compact wheel loader, there are additional operator tips to help save on operating costs and maximize wheel loader efficiency. For example, position the truck at a 45-degree angle, straight-on to the material you’re approaching. This is the best position to ensure minimum loader movement and even material contact, resulting in lower fuel consumption. You can also keep your bucket off the ground for as long as possible before you touch the face of the material. Other tips, such as avoiding spinning your wheel loader’s wheels and keeping the jobsite floor clean, lower wear and tear on wheel loader costs like tires and bucket attachments.

So, What’s So Great About the Cat Compact Wheel Loader’s Hystat System?

Your Cat compact wheel loader keeps performance and fuel efficiency high. How? The engine works in conjunction with an intelligent hystat power train to deliver exceptional fuel efficiency, with features like your left inching pedal and the throttle lock located on your right joystick.

Utilizing Your Compact Wheel Loader’s Left Inching Pedal

To get the most out of the hystat system, you’ll want to utilize the left inching pedal or brake to slow your machine. The first two thirds of ravel will not activate the actual mechanical brake, so you can keep your machine at high torque and maximum RPM for fuel efficiency. As you press the wheel loader’s inching pedal further, you’ll feel the mechanical brake engage. Thanks to the compact wheel loader’s hystat system, you can keep a smooth workflow, operating slowly while optimizing efficiency.

Getting the Most From Your Compact Wheel Loader’s Throttle Lock

Your Cat wheel loader’s throttle lock feature, found on the right keypad, makes operating your wheel loader even simpler. Once you’ve set the throttle lock, you will be able to remove your right foot from the pedal. Now, you can operate your compact wheel loader with just your left inching pedal alone to moderate speed. Typically, you would have to keep your right pedal floored to engage the hystat system. But, with the throttle lock feature, you can turn more focus to the operation at hand.

Cat® compact wheel loaders utilize a more aggressive Hystat or engine-braking that we’ve implicated into small wheel loaders now as well.
