Your Cat® D8/D8T Dozer’s automatic ripper control (ARC) function can save you the time and money of wearing and repairing your bulldozer ripper shanks. By automating your dozer’s ripper to its optimal height and maintaining a consistent speed, automatic ripper control can cut down on track slip — and help extend the lifespan of your implements.
Estimated read time: 2 minutes
Activate automatic ripper control (ARC) at any time when the machine is on. The machine will prepare your ripper. Shift into forward and automatic ripper control automatically controls your speed, setting it to 1.5, and inserts your ripper into the ground. You’re then ready to rip.
Thanks to automatic bulldozer ripper control, the height of your ripper will automatically adjust, depending on ground conditions. This prevents ripper frame drag and controls track slip, reducing wear on your equipment and operator fatigue.
Automatic ripper control turns off [01:03] when you shift to reverse or if you have auto stow active. It also suspends when:
You engage your dozer’s parking brake.
If you leave your cab and your dozer detects you are not present.
If your ripping implement triggers a fault code.
This video shows you [01:36] where you can find your automatic ripper control and auto stow buttons. Through your dozer’s monitor, access the ARC menu on your Cat Information Display, There, you can enable shank control and the auto rip flow. You can also change your auto stow settings to either raise, raise with shank in, or raise with shank out.
Find your load factor settings on the third menu page. Remember: the higher the load factor, the more ARC allows track slip before picking up the ripper.
Always refer to your Operation and Maintenance Manual, and practice safe operating procedures.
