Caterpillar skid steer attachments make the machines even more productive. Skid steer broom attachments and mulchers increase a machine’s versatility, but these attachments require different amounts of hydraulic fluid to operate. Cat® skid steer continuous flow allows for smooth control and easy handling of different attachments.
The name says it all. Continuous flow allows for a continuous flow of power to be delivered to many of the rotating work tools of your Cat skid steer loader. Much like cruise control in a car or truck, continuous flow can be turned on and set or disengaged with the flick of a switch.
Once the continuous flow feature is activated by flipping the switch, a symbol will flash on the skid steer’s in-cab monitor. Then, the operator can choose the appropriate level of flow for the work attachment in use, and the continuous flow feature will be locked. The feature deactivates when the skid steer joystick is used to change that flow level in any way or if the continuous flow switch is turned off
A Cat skid steer with mulching head can make easier work of chipping wood and debris. There’s a range of styles to choose from, depending on what is needed on a jobsite—from low-flow, small mulchers to large, 40-gallons-per-minute mulchers. Skid steer mulcher attachments also vary in tooth styles to combat different terrain and ground conditions. Continuous flow allows operators to power through debris and small trees, grinding at a steady pace, no matter how big of a mulcher is used.
A Cat skid steer trencher attachment digs with precision to create space for utility lines and is also used in construction and agricultural applications. Depending on the depth required, mulchers are available in standard-flow or high-flow to accommodate different power needs. Cat skid steer continuous flow creates a steady flow of power to optimize digging performance while making it possible for the operator to take their thumb off the roller. This makes it easier to access other convenient Cat skid steer features like creep speed control.
Cat skid steer cold planer attachments are the ideal tools for restoring asphalt and concrete surfaces to a specific grade or level where weight restrictions might prohibit larger machines. As with most skid steer attachments, cold planers can be high- or standard-flow. The continuous flow feature allows operators to more easily run the head of the cold planer at a level that matches that of the skid steer. The key to using a cold planer correctly is a smooth, steady ride, and continuous flow makes it easier to get great results.
Broom attachments sweep and collect light debris from surfaces. There are two styles of Cat skid steer broom attachments: pickup brooms (or sweeper style) and angled brooms. No matter the style of broom being used, it’s important to limit the amount of pressure placed on broom bristles to avoid causing damage. The reason continuous flow is so valuable with skid steer broom attachments is because it makes it easier to operate while also helping to extend the life of the attachment.
There’s almost nothing a skid steer loader can’t do, when you consider the number of existing features and attachments you can add. From an intelligent drive response setting that allows you to customize the maneuverability of your skid steer to an advanced LCD in-cab display that puts operators in full control of machine settings, skid steers are engineered to be comfortable and easy to use.
