See how the new Cat® R2900 XE is helping mines increase productivity and drive down exhaust emissions.
By Caterpillar | Posted April 3, 2024
Engine exhaust emissions present a unique challenge for underground mines. In addition to meeting environmental goals and complying with regulations, underground operations require constant ventilation to keep temperatures tolerable and control air quality.
As mines dig deeper to access their reserves, ventilation costs can make or break an operation’s profitability — giving them one more reason to produce as few exhaust emissions as possible. The Cat® R2900 XE Underground Loader was designed to help mines face this challenge, with an ultra-clean diesel-electric engine that uses less fuel and produces fewer emissions.
The R2900 XE is powered by a reliable and durable Cat C15 engine that can be fitted with a variety of emission reduction and aftertreatment options, including an EU Stage V configuration and diesel particulate filtration. It delivers the power you need – up to 335 kW (449 hp) – but it burns 31% less fuel than the R2900G. It also produces runs at a lower RPM and produces less heat, further reducing the need for ventilation.
The engine powers a high-efficiency electric drive system that offers improved power and faster cycle times. The result is a machine that produces fewer exhaust emissions than standard diesel equipment without sacrificing power or productivity.
In fact, the R2900 XE offers a 20% increase in productivity over the R2900G thanks to its larger payload, faster acceleration and enhanced hydraulics.
“The R2900 XE really is the total package,” said Senior Product Consultant Gordon Wilkin. “People often think reduced exhaust emissions means less power, but this machine is stronger and more productive.”
“It’s got all the bells and whistles of a next-generation loader, and it also helps our customers cut down on their emissions and their ventilation costs,” said Wilkin.
