Tapping Into Top Talent at CES 2024

By Stacy Zeller, Talent Acquisition Manager - Electrification + Energy Solutions (E+ES)

At Caterpillar, we're deep in the heart of the energy transition, tackling complex challenges that come with it. Our endeavors range from electrifying work sites to embedding fuel cells into our customer’s operations. Championing this invigorating charge is none other than our relentless hunt for talent. That's what I dive into daily ensuring we bring on board the kind of trailblazing talent that's tailor-made for navigating such an intricate landscape.

Caterpillar? The big yellow equipment company? You read that right. The amount of highly complex technology that goes into Cat® equipment and then goes to work in tough, rugged applications around the world is amazing. We’re talking remote monitoring, high-precision guidance, payload tracking, even fully autonomous operation.

The next big step forward will come in electrification — and if you’re a tech expert looking to tackle the challenges of the energy transition, then we’re looking for you to join us on that journey.

Seeking: fast learners, forward thinkers

What types of jobs are available on our electrification and energy solutions team here at Caterpillar? The roles vary widely. Right now, positions are open for everything from directors focused on the business side of electrification, to engineers developing battery components for high-voltage electronics, to technicians testing prototypes in the lab.

Whatever the job title, we’re seeking forward thinkers: people who can view problems from new perspectives and find new applications for existing technologies. We need fast learners and innovators: people who can move quickly to invent solutions that haven’t been thought of before.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a recent grad with an advanced degree or a seasoned engineer with years of mechanical, control systems or electrification experience. If you fit these criteria, chances are there may be an opportunity for you at Caterpillar.

A chance to be part of an innovative industry

Maybe you’re wondering why you should consider working at Caterpillar versus all the other high-tech companies out there. Let me tell you about my own experience.

One of the things that drew me to Caterpillar is the state of electrification in the industry today. Heavy equipment manufacturers are at an inflection point right now, much like the automotive companies were 10 or 15 years ago. The work happening in this space isn’t incremental — it’s disruptive. And those of us doing that work have the opportunity to make a significant contribution and define what electrification will mean going forward.

That involves a lot of effort, a lot of trial and error, but also a lot of potential reward. Industrial applications may not be as enchanting as consumer electronics, but consider the impact: Electrifying construction and mining — industries that modern society relies on for much of our quality of life — could have a huge effect on the global carbon footprint.

Consider us a Fortune 100 startup

Here’s another reason I chose Caterpillar: Every day, I get to experience the excitement and thrill of working in a technology startup-like environment — but with the backing of a Fortune 100 company.

Caterpillar has the resources to invest in research and development, the well-respected brand and culture to attract a high-quality workforce and nearly 100 years of experience leading in the industries it serves. At the same time, it’s a company willing to challenge the status quo and move quickly to find answers to today’s challenges.

I find Caterpillar leaders very supportive of treating electrification and energy solutions like “new tech.” They give us the freedom to play with ideas and draw from other industries. They also encourage us to think with an integrated solutions mindset. We’re not just developing batteries or electric powertrains here. We’re creating an ecosystem to help our customers electrify their jobsites, achieve their sustainability goals and succeed in a reduced-carbon world.

Find out more at CES 2024

That ecosystem is what we’re showcasing at CES 2024 in Las Vegas in January. If you’re at the show, I hope you’ll stop by the Caterpillar exhibit to see in person the advanced technology solutions already in progress and to talk to our team about the career opportunities available. If you can’t make it, be sure to visit our Caterpillar at CES page and take a look at our open positions. We’d love to welcome you onboard our electrification journey.
