Chances are, you get them all the time. But what do you really know about push notifications — those messages that suddenly pop up on your mobile device? And what do they have to do with Cat® equipment? Here’s the backstory:
A push notification is a clickable message sent directly to your smartphone or tablet that doesn’t require you to have any specific app open. If you’re using your mobile device, the message usually appears as a banner on your current screen. If you’re not, it displays on your lock screen. You can decide to open the notification or ignore it.
Think of push notifications like texts or emails but more instantaneous and disruptive. Because they interrupt what you’re doing, most organizations reserve their use for critical or urgent information, events or offers.
Maybe you’ve set up push notifications in your weather app. That way, if there’s severe weather approaching, you get a heads up so you can change plans or take cover. Here are some other common examples:
1. Simplicity and convenience: Once you sign up to receive push notifications, your work is done. There’s no need to open our text messages, scroll through your emails or search for an app on your phone to get the information you need.
2. Real-time communication: Push notifications arrive instantly on your mobile device. That’s important in time-sensitive situations, like when there’s a storm nearby or you’re about to miss your mortgage payment.
3. Personalization and relevance: By opting to turn on push notifications, you can stay informed about the news and events that matter to you. It’s a way to filter through the “noise” often found in your inbox or text messages.
So, what do push notifications have to do with your Cat equipment? You now have the option to turn on service insights in VisionLink® and the Cat Central app.
When you do, you’ll get predictive alerts about critical service events delivered in real time. For example, your machine might trigger plugged fuel filter fault codes at an unusual frequency. You immediately get a notification on your phone alerting you to the issue. When you click on the message, you see two options: Schedule service with us or go right to a pre-populated shopping cart with the exact filter your engine requires.
Either way, you’re able to take action in just minutes to address a potential problem, reduce unplanned downtime and keep your equipment working at peak productivity.
