NOx Feedback System for GCM34 Engines
The NOx feedback system enables more stable engine operation in the case of variations in gas quality and changing ambient conditions. Based on the NOx emissions measured at the turbocharger outlet and the deviation from the specified NOx value, the combustion of the air-fuel mixture is modified so that the specified NOx value is reached again.
The charge air pressure is adjusted by the NOx feedback system to reach the specified NOx value. It prevents a mixture from being too lean or too rich.
If the mixture is too rich, exhaust gas temperatures and NOx emissions will rise. Knocking of the engine may occur with resulting shutdowns. If the mixture is too lean, exhaust gas temperatures drop, NOx emissions decline and misfire, and the resulting shutdowns may occur.
This solution makes it possible to compensate for calorific value fluctuations and changes in the methane number. This prevents symptoms of an excessively lean or enriched mixture of air and fuel, resulting in higher availability for engines with high efficiency.
