TUCSON, Ariz., September 21, 2024 – The next generation of Cat® Truck Bodies offer a range of lightweight designs with exclusive features that maximize payload, improve durability, and are designed to be rebuilt to optimize cost-per-ton operation. Drawing from deep truck design expertise and global applications experience, each truck body is designed to work as a complete hauling system with the truck chassis, helping to optimize payload with high confidence.

To improve shipping time to regions, Caterpillar now has truck bodies manufactured in India and Chile. Each location offers the full range, including Cat Maximum Payload (MP), High Performance (HP), High Efficiency (HE), and the popular legacy designs, such as Dual Slope (DS), X and Mine-Specific (MSD II). Caterpillar offers specialty designs as well for working in coal, oil sands, and mixed material hauling applications.

Maximizing payload with MP Body

A bolster-less and lightweight design, the new Cat MP Body allows for the highest potential payload across the Cat product line. Its convex canopy plus perimeter reinforcement adds strength and durability, while internal transition geometry minimizes carryback. Featuring 15% lower weight than the HP Body, the MP Body offers a 2% payload potential. Maintenance is simplified with open sections at the hoist and pivot brackets as well as an open-style rocker tower design.

The MP Body is currently available for all vintages of the Cat 793 Mining Truck with a life expectancy potential reaching 30,000 hours. It ranges in capacity from 164-193 m3 (215-252 yd3).

Long-term performance with High Performance Body Providing a blend of lightweight design and durability, the Cat HP Body delivers high payload potential and long life. Patented floating bolsters and spring plates replace welds in high-stress areas to improve durability. Curved front and side transitions minimize carryback, while its kick-up at the tail offers material retention plus the highest available dump clearance within the Cat truck body line.

A versatile design for any application, the HP Body pairs with the following Cat trucks:

  • Cat 785 with capacities from 76 to 110 m3 (99 to 144 yd3)
  • Cat 789 with capacities from 143 to 153 m3 (187 to 200 yd3)
  • Cat 793 with capacities from 152 to 191 m3 (199 to 250 yd3)
  • Cat 797 F with capacities from 252 to 268 m3 (330 to 350 yd3)

High Efficiency Body

Built for Cat AC electric drive trucks, the curved floor of the HE Body provides impact resistance without heavy structural support. Lightweight for high payload potential, this body has a canopy with overhead coverage plus perimeter reinforcement from the rear rib through the top rail for added strength and durability. Spring plates replace welds in high stress areas, improving weld fatigue life.

Over 3 million operating hours demonstrate the HE Body’s durability, available for:

  • Cat 794 AC with capacities from 174 to 222 m3 (228 to 290 yd3)
  • Cat 796 AC with capacities from 186 to 237 m3 (243 to 310 yd3)
  • Cat 798 AC with capacities from 218 to 276 m3 (285 to 361 yd3)

Specialty designs for coal and overburden

The Cat Truck Body line includes specialty body designs for specific applications and commodities. Available for Cat 785, 789 and 796 AC trucks, the Cat Specialty Combination Body offers a hybrid design capable of hauling both coal and overburden materials. Based on the DS design, the Cat Specialty Coal Body for the 793 truck is specially designed for accommodating large volumes of light density coal material. A 5.5 tonne weight reduction compared to the Oil Sands MSD II, the Cat Specialty Oil Sands HP Body allows customers to realize higher payload when working in the oil sands.

THE LEGACY DESIGNS

Increased load retention with Dual Slope Body

Ideal for challenging applications, the Cat DS Body design features a V-shaped floor to increase load retention, maintains a low center of gravity, reduces shock loading and keeps optimum load distribution on steep inclines. With a life expectancy of 40,000 to 60,000 hours using a 1-2 rebuild/reline cycle, the DS Body offers up to 33% longer body life over lightweight bodies in the same application.

With over 30 years of successful operation, the DS Body is available for:

  • Cat 785 with capacities from 78 to 95 m3 (102 to 124 yd3)
  • Cat 789 with capacities from 109 to 132 m3 (142 to 173 yd3)
  • Cat 793 with capacities from 129 to 156 m3 (168 to 204 yd3)

Minimizing added weight with X-Body

The Cat X Body design leverages heavier steel and incorporates the benefits of the lightweight body design to deliver the same durability as standard heavy-duty bodies. Configurable liner packages contain only the liner sections required for the customer’s specific application to minimize added weight. This design provides up to 33% longer life over lightweight bodies and has a 25% thicker base floor to deliver improved durability over the MSD II.

Design improvements mean added volume comes at no extra weight. The X Body is for:

  • Cat 785 with capacities from 85 to 103 m3 (111 to 135 yd3)
  • Cat 789 with capacities from 123 to 138 m3 (161 to 181 yd3)
  • Cat 793 with capacities from 149 to 165 m3 (195 to 216 yd3)

Lightweight and customizable Mine-Specific Design II With its lightweight and highly customizable design, the Cat MSD II Body delivers maximum versatility for use in most applications. Site-specific designed, the body maximizes performance based on application and is available in several sizes for high payload potential with varying material densities. The MSD II offers increased payload potential with an average 14.5% weight reduction compared to a typical DS Body.

The most customizable body with numerous application-specific configurations, the MSD II is available for:

  • Cat 785 with capacities from 99 to 122 m3 (130 to 160 yd3)
  • Cat 789 with capacities from 130 to 153 m3 (170 to 200 yd3)
  • Cat 793 with capacities from 160 to 191 m3 (209 to 250 yd3)
  • Cat 795 with capacities from 181 to 224 m3 (237 to 293 yd3)

Caterpillar will display 3D-printed scale models of several HP, MP and HE designs at MINExpo 2024 in booth #6333.
