Dynamic Gas Blending™ Lowers Emissions, Flare and Diesel Costs
Best people. Superior equipment. Strong relationships. Those three factors have set Alamo Pressure Pumping apart from the beginning. And the Midland, Texas-based company counts on getting the same from Caterpillar.
“Caterpillar gives us a leg up on the market,” says Glen Fradenburg, Alamo’s executive vice president, particularly with customers who are “under the gun” with environmental, safety and governance (ESG) issues.
Alamo was one of the first oil and gas operations to use Cat® Dynamic Gas Blending™ (DGB™) engines, which employ dual-fuel technology to maximize the amount of gas used to displace diesel — reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and operating costs significantly. It’s a game-changing solution that received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 2020 Clean Air Excellence Award.
Alamo’s seven frac fleets operating in west Texas are powered by 42 Cat 3512E U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final DGB engines.
“There are several operators we work for who don’t want anything but Caterpillar because of the emissions,” says Jed Hinojosa, Alamo’s vice president of operations. “With Tier 4 DGB, you’re taking natural gas that would come from the earth, and you run that gas in the pump instead of flaring it out. It negates the need for so much diesel — reducing the amount of trucks to deliver diesel and overall diesel use on the pad.”
But it’s not just Cat engines and transmissions Alamo relies on — it’s also innovative solutions and unmatched support from both Caterpillar and dealer Warren Cat. That includes technology built into Cat equipment that helps the company identify, diagnose and fix any potential issues fast.
