The Malaga Demonstration and Learning Center (MDLC) has been delivering the ultimate immersive Caterpillar experience since 1971.

Located on over 260 acres in the Costa del Sol, Spain, where the mild climate allows year-round operation, this outstanding and unique facility brings you up close and personal with everything that makes Caterpillar such an extraordinary company.

Fully staffed with specialized training instructors and experienced support staff, the MDLC is an unmatched location for running seminars, product demonstrations and other learning activities in a relaxed atmosphere. And now it’s even better with the all-new Caterpillar Malaga Technology Experience. A dedicated space to explore the very latest technology features loaded into Cat® equipment. With 11 different modules, each one offering a deep dive into specific Cat technology products.

Who better to explain more than Maurice Manders, MDLC Director. “Our visitors come for different reasons; sometimes to gather information, others want to see the productivity gains with their own eyes, or want to experience the equipment operations to ensure that they make the right purchase decision. Other times, company management wants to recognize employees by providing unique experiences like hands-on training, equipment demonstrations, and events. With the shortage of qualified labor, employee recognition has become an important tool to attract and retain talent.”

During these product demonstrations, it became evident that with so many different audiences with varying experiences, it wasn’t always easy or relevant to go into specific details or answer individual questions. “So, we got the team here together, and we came up with the idea to create a space where customers can directly interact with the technology, but without having to be in the cab of a machine.” But taking the technology out of the equipment and bringing it into an exhibition space where people with different backgrounds and language capabilities can easily see the benefits of the technology was not so simple to do.

From then on, it was a collaborative experience. “Our team of experienced demonstrators, who know best about the benefits of technology on the jobsite, worked together with creative marketing professionals from Caterpillar, who know best how to design interactive displays.”

The final result is everything Maurice wanted it to be, interactive, immersive, informative and fun.

The Technology Experience offers various stations showcasing the latest construction technologies. One highlight for visitors is to be able to view our demonstrators operating a remotely controlled D7 or 340 using the Cat Command station. We also have other areas showcasing the new VisionLink®, Cat Inspect, Driver Safety System, and Command for Compaction, to name a few. And, of course, our guests also get a full hands-on experience with one of our machine simulators too.

At the end of the day, it isn’t just having fun but opening Cat dealers and their customers to the full potential of what’s possible. “When customers hear from sales professionals about the large productivity gains and cost reductions that can be achieved through these new technologies, they sometimes dismiss them as nice marketing words that don’t apply to their jobsite.
