PRE-SHIFT CHECK [00:19]

Your pre-shift check can help you spot any potential issues before they interrupt the job. You’ll want to inspect your attachment and ground engaging tools (GET) for any damage, like cracks or rust. Check your rollover protective structure (ROPS) and falling object protective structure (FOPS) for signs of leaks or structural damage. Don’t forget to inspect the back of your excavator, too.

Make sure your boom, stick and attachment linkage are lubricated and free of debris — and check your swing drive for proper lubrication and any leaks or damage. Check under your machine for any leaks and debris as well. And inspect your hoses, making sure each is intact with no loose bolts or leaks.

Important service points are behind the panels on the sides of your machine. Watch the video to learn where to find:

  • Fluid and air filters

  • Window fluid

  • Battery

  • Diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) purge light

  • Battery disconnect switch

  • Jumpstart port

  • Coolant S•O•SSM fluid analysis sample port

  • Fluid fills

SAFETY TIPS [02:27]

Wear personal protective equipment (PPE), as required. Learn your lift and tie-down points for machine transportation.

Other safety tips you’ll see in the video:

  • Maintain three points of contact when on your equipment.

  • Be mindful of pinch points and swinging/rotating parts.

  • In case of emergency, use the battery disconnect or engine stop control.

  • Keep compartment doors closed and latched.

  • Make sure your mirrors, windows and rearview camera are clean.

BASIC OPERATOR SETTINGS [03:11]

Getting started with the day’s work? Make sure your mirrors are adjusted for a full and safe view of your surroundings, and adjust your seat for comfort and easy reach of your pedal/joystick before operating your 350 Excavator. And if you haven’t, familiarize yourself with all the important buttons and switches in your cab.

Always refer to your Operation and Maintenance Manual for guidance on maintenance, safety, settings, features and more. Order additional or replacement OMMs if needed.
