Whether you’re an experienced operator or new to heavy machinery, wheeled excavator safety always needs to be top of mind. Watch this video for tips on how to stay safe in and out of the cab.

You know how important it is to follow proper procedure before starting up your Cat® wheeled excavator for a day’s work. This video shows safety tips to keep in mind when you’re on the jobsite:
Estimated watch time: 2 minutes
The most important and obvious reason is keeping workers free from harm. Once that’s truly #1 on your jobsite, you can think about everything else. An unsafe jobsite is an unproductive jobsite. An unsafe jobsite can lead to equipment failures.
Whether you’ve been around heavy equipment for three months or three decades, you’ll want to always be alert. Here are just a few tips:
Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required while on the jobsite and operating your articulated truck.
Be mindful of all pinch points — places where your skin or clothing could get caught.
Keep your boots clean to avoid slipping.
Keep your compactor’s mirrors and rearview camera clean.
Maintain three points of contact while entering and exiting your cab. Always use the feet pads, steps and handrails.
Always wear your seat belt while operating your wheeled excavator.
Check your OMM for location of (and procedure for) your cab's alternate exit in case of emergency.
Don’t let debris build up. Minimize risk of machine malfunction and fire by keeping the area under your hood clean.
Learn about your electrical service center, which contains your fuel shutoff and master disconnect.
And remember: Always refer to your Operation and Maintenance Manual for guidance on maintenance, safety, settings, features and more.
